Music for the story

The story of ‘Open the Curtains’ carries a narrative description of vivid experience via an evocative, and disturbing, storyline. It also reflects themes around life, death, spirituality and the search for deeper meaning as well as our quest for better understanding about the human condition and our place in the world we find ourselves born into. In this regard, Phil Goss has created music – songs and instrumental pieces written, alongside this book, over the past twenty years – which reflect his own wrestle with the mystery of life and ‘what lies beneath’. These are now ready to accompany each of the chapters in this book.

Phil sings, plays keyboards and has crafted and recorded the music you will hear alongside the story in the North West of England and London.  A piece of music comes with each chapter purchased. In the case of the first chapter there is no charge for this or the first piece of music which accompanies it, the instrumental ‘Open the Curtains’. This is named after the book and sets the tone evocatively with its blend of keyboard melodies, atmospheric stops and starts, and vocal sounds. It opens the curtains on this tale of woe, mystery but also hoped-for redemption.

As you journey through the book, the vocal and instrumental pieces provide shades of light and dark behind the narrative themes, deepen the atmosphere of the story and highlight the daunting but exciting challenge of confronting the presence of death in life …and getting closer to the core of our being…
